As surprising as it may be after years of silence, defrag is about to get updated. I've been coding for the mod since its very beginning - in fact I started working on what we called "defrag" at a time there wasn't an accompanying mod. You could call me the defrag grampa if you need put a label on me. Somehow I've never felt quite done with it and - heck - I do not intend to let defrag haunt me to the grave.
So what's with this faceless blog in place of a website? I had thoughts about building a new website but even a simple, plain one demands time and efforts which are scarce resources to me now. Besides we've been trying all the way to provide the community with services, but the community itself always found its own way and outgrew our efforts. As personal as a blog is, it's pretty much what defrag development is about now - something individual, something personal. A blog is a comfortable and versatile way of releasing contents.
As far as the development itself, I will be focusing on improving the multiplayer experience and have prepared two separate branches of code to work on - one for simple, straightforward fixes and improvements; the other meant for experimental features, overall changes, that may or may not make it into a release. I won't be maintaining the single player side of the mod for the sole reason it is too demanding. We've somewhat come to be bloated. Future releases shouldn't be considered demo safe and will have the beta tag on in that regard.
I'll be releasing my work in small increments, rather than focusing on release events that take weeks to put together.
As a side note, I would like to thank Planetquake and Gamespy for their years of hosting services.
See you around with updates.
